Haha I loved this, my personal irritation is definitely people at airports, 100%

I do really like the takeaway that we've all been that person. It's true that we can't eliminate irritation completely but we can try as much as we can to be openminded

We are eventually getting there :-)

I confess I get quite irritated when the driver ahead of me has a green light (to turn either left or right), and doesn't move. Or when they are driving "too" slowly.

My irritation, no doubt, is fed by my presumption that they are on their phone texting. Perhaps they are, or perhaps they're elderly, unwell, or deeply distracted by a profound unfolding life event or someone who is, in turn, annoying THEM. And yes, I have been all of those things (except not elderly yet, though I surely will be).

I love the redemptive note this essay ended on!

Yes, that can be challenging. :-)

More often than not, I am annoyed by reckless drivers thinking they own the road and can put other people in danger, just because they have a fancy car or need to compensate some other stuff... Lot's of those fellas here in Bulgaria, unfortunately, which for a German (like myself) is REALLY annoying as we have been raised to respect other people's spaces differently. But I guess, it is a lesson in tolerance I need to learn. I am sure those fellas life isn't easy as well. ;-)

My Dutch hlhusband used to say that in Bulgaria “they drive the cars of today on the roads from yesterday with the speed of tomorrow”…

I totally understand -- there are unfortunately a lot of reckless drivers here in Arizona too!! In fact, we're supposedly the 2nd worst state for driving in the whole US. Now I wonder how they compare to the drivers in Bulgaria...

I've been to other places with worse driving for sure. But when you see it every day, it's especially annoying. ;-) So, I train myself in acceptance.

Oh yes, mess which others make in the kitchen and don't clean up themselves makes me angrier than it probably should. I'm far from being the neatest person, but I have a weird obsession about keeping at least part of the kitchen bench free from any dirty dishes. Today I noticed I'd left different jackets on almost all of our dining chairs though, which could easily be just as irritating to the family! My excuse is I'm usually too tired when taking a jacket off at the end of the day to put it away in the wardrobe, which is no excuse at all really...

I always felt that we are our most authentic “selves “ when no one is around to get irritated because of our jackets thrown on the sofa and our dirty dishes in the sink 🙃 thanks for sharing.
